Jim Davis is the owner of New Balance shoes company and a billionaire. During the latest years, Forbes magazine has been including him in its notorious lists together with the wealthiest Americans and Greeks.
Forbes 400 list for 2014 ranks him on place 173 and declares him the richest of the 7 Greeks on this year’s list. His fortune is estimated to be well over $3.2 billion. In 2015’s list he in on place 124 with a forune of 4,4 billion dollars. In 2015’s list he is on place 94 with 5,2 billion dollars.
Davis was born in 1943 in the United States to Greek immigrants.
In 1972, on the day of the popular Boston Marathon, Davis bought New Balance and together with 6 employees, he manufactured 30 pairs of running shoes on a daily basis. Currently, New Balance employs 4,000 people and ranks as one of the most successful business organizations in the world.
Davis received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Middlebury College in 1966.
His wife Anna started working for the Human Resources Department of New Balance in 1977 and currently serves the company as Vice President.
Davis has donated $5 million to the University of Maine and a library in the campus of Middlebury College has been named for him. The charity work of the Davis family is extraordinary. They have founded the New Balance Foundation, serving the mission of supporting charitable organizations whose humanitarian efforts work for the betterment of childrens’ living standards and also for the prevention of childhood obesity.
