Forbes: Seven Greeks among America’s wealthiest people

The list with the richest people in America was published by the magazine Forbes, known as Forbes 400. 7 Greek businessmen are included on this years list with their total fortune to reach 16.68 billion dollars.

The price of entry to The Forbes 400, with the 400 wealthiest Americans this year is $1.55 billion, the highest it’s been since Forbes started tracking American wealth in 1982. Last year it took $1.3 billion to score a spot. Because the bar is so high, 113 U.S. billionaires didn’t make the cut.

Seven Greeks in the Forbes 400 list

The richest Greek of the list is Jim Davis, the owner of New Balance shoes company. We found him in 173 place with total fortune of 3.2 billion dollars. Davis was born in 1943 in the United States to Greek immigrants.

John Paul Dejoria is at 179 place with a fortune that reaches 3.2 billion dollars. He was born to immigrant parents, a Greek mother and an Italian father. His main income source is John Paul Mitchell Systems, his hair products company. Actually, before building his business empire, he used to be a homeless guy living in his car.

John Catsimatides is in the 280 place with his wealth estimated at 2,3 billion dollars. His group of companies which includes the largest chain of food supermarkets in New York and Florida, 400 Petrol Stations, while he also deals with the Real Estate.

On place 290 is Michael Jaharis with 2.2 billion dollars. During the last years, he’s regularly included in Forbes’s Richest Men in the World lists. Jaharis is the founder of Kos Pharmaceuticals and Vatera Healthcare Partners and also co-founder of Arisaph Pharmaceuticals.

Dean Metropoulos is on number 318 of the list with 2,1 billion dollars. He is the owner of Pabst Brewing, which produces more than 24 brands of beer and drinks. His family moved to USA when he was 10 years old.

Number 321 on the list is George Argyros with 2 billion dollars. The 76 year old businessman deals with real estate and investments and had served as U.S. ambassador to Spain.

Last but not least, we find Peter Peterson with 1,68 billion dollars on 377 place. He’s a businessman, banker, author and politician and has prominently served as the United States Secretary of Commerce from February 29, 1972 to February 1, 1973 under President Nixon. Currently he’s considered to be the most influential persona in the country.
