For yet another month Greeks from all over the world, managed to excel, to abolish the borders and make us proud with their achievements. The ellines.com team chose 5 of them, who during the month November caused international sensation with the work and personality.

1.Asimina Arvanitaki

Perimeter Institute is launching its new Centre for the Universe, a cluster of interdisciplinary research tackling the toughest questions in cosmology.The Centre was officially launched Nov. 20, along with the announcement that three prestigious new cosmology Fellowships – named after eminent cosmologists Stephen Hawking, Jim Peebles, and the late Yakov Zel’dovich. The Centre’s scientific patrons are Stephen Hawking and 2015 Nobel laureate Art McDonald, and its steering committee includes Asimina Arvanitaki, Avery Broderick, Luis Lehner, Kendrick Smith, and new Perimeter Faculty member Neal Dalal. 2.Konstantinos Tzelepis

A study has found an unexpected new drug target for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) that could open new avenues to develop effective treatments against this potentially lethal disease. Dr Konstantinos Tzelepis, one of the first authors on the study from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, said: “This study uncovered an entirely new mechanism of gene regulation in AML that operates through modifications of RNA”. 3.Kostas Gerasopoulos

A team of scientists led by a Greek researcher at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, has partnered with researchers from the University of Maryland (UMD) and the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) to develop a new type of flexible lithium-ion battery that can operate under extreme conditions, including cutting, submersion and ballistic impact. 4.Gabriella Papadakis

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France became the first ice dancers to break through the 200-point barrier, winning the ISU Grand Audi Cup of China on Saturday in Beijing. Read more…

5.Magdalini Polymenidou

EMBO announced the selection of 28 young researchers as EMBO Young Investigators.  The 28 researchers, among them the Greek researcher, will join a network of 47 current and 417 past Young Investigators who represent some of the best up-and-coming group leaders in the life sciences in Europe and beyond.
