Rsearchers led by a Greek scientist, may be closer to unraveling the underlying causes of Parkinson’s disease, after identifying the point at which alpha-synuclein – a protein believed to play a key role in the condition – becomes toxic to the brain. First author is Dr. Dorothea Pinotsi, of the Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. Geneticists from the University of Geneva (UNIGE), Switzerland and NYU Langone Medical Center have discovered new genes responsible for skin cancer, a breakthrough that could lead in personalised treatments for the patients.
