Tarpon Springs’ new mayor is from Kalymnos
Chris Alahouzos was elected the new mayor of Tarpon Springs March 15, collecting 58.7 percent of the vote.
“I just want to say that I am very thankful for the people of Tarpon Springs and I’m looking forward to working for them and to take the city to the next level,” Alahouzos said.
Mr. Alahouzos was born in Greece, on the island Kalymnos and migrated to the United States with his father when he was fourteen years old.
The new mayor elect celebrated his win from the Spanos-Pappas Community Center in Tarpon Springs. He said he wasn’t surprised by the margin of his win. Alahouzos claimed 4,270 votes compared to 3,008 votes for former Mayor Frank DiDonato.
“We visited at least 90 percent of the houses in Tarpon Springs,” Alahouzos said. “The input and the response that I was getting from the people in Tarpon Springs gave me the feeling that everything was going to be OK.”
