Γιατί είναι τόσο σπουδαίας σημασίας το Hellenic American Project;

The Hellenic American Project (HAP) is a non-profit program that has supported the Hellenic American presence in the United States for over 100 years.

It was founded and directed by Nicholas Alexiou and it documents the Hellenic American presence in the United States. It has been operating since 1900 as a research facility including a museum, a Hellenic American library, an event venue and an up-to-date record. The HAP aims to promote research, education and community collaboration on issues related to the Greek American experience. In this context, it engages in the study and understanding of American communities and the cultural, social and historical aspects that shape them. The Hellenic-American Oral History Project is the only program that promotes the work and the experience of the New York City’s Greek American community.

Its initiatives include academic, student and business exchanges, cultural programs and the organization of seminars and conferences to promote mutual respect and cooperation. Essentially, through this initiative, the strengthening of relations between Greece and the United States is promoted through cultural, educational, business, and economic partnership. In July 2022, HAP acquired the digital and physical archive of the Voice of America Greek Service, thus enhancing its vision.

Through its research activities and the promotion of its vision, the Hellenic American Project contributes to the recognition and support of the contribution of Greeks and Greek Americans to Greek American society, as well as to the preservation and promotion of Greek culture and heritage worldwide. Since it is the only program of this nature that exists in New York, it needs to be recognized and shared by more people and organizations. Thus, donations are required in order to fund the successful continuation of the program. Members who offer their assistance will receive many benefits and privileges, as well as the community’s gratitude and respect.
