Nominated by European Athletics for the award of the best athlete of the year Athletics

Gold medalist Miltos Tentoglou is nominated for the best European athlete of the year, as announced by European Athletics.

The 23-year-old jumper was nominated for up-and-coming athlete of the year at European level in 2017 and 2018, but for the first time he is claiming the award of the top athlete in Europe.

Tentoglou had won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in length with a performance of 8.41 meters, while he had the top performance with 8.60 meters.

All the nominees for this award are Gold Olympians. Among the candidates are the gold medalist in the 400 meters hurdles and holder of the world record Carsten Warholm and the awesome javelin thrower Monto Duplantis.

Miltos Tentoglou was born in 1998 and belongs to the General Assembly of Gravena. The “golden” jumper, in the past, was actively involved in parkour and during a match he was seen by Vangelis Papanikos, his first coach, who realized that the young man had great agility. He invited him to make some test jumps on the pitch of the stadium and after the third jump he was sure that Miltos undoubtedly belonged to the rising European athletes.

Also, the 23-year-old became the youngest Greek to conquer the top of Europe in his competition at the men’s level, while he is undoubtedly one of the Greek hopes for distinction at the 2020 Olympic Games. His previous distinctions at the international level were the gold medal at the European Children’s Championship (K18) and the silver at the World Championship of the same category.
