Honor for Greece to be elected President of the World Scientific Society for Robotic Surgery CRSA

The election of Dr. Konstantinos Konstantinidis as President of the Global Scientific Society for Robotic Surgery CRSA is a great honour for the scientific community of Greece and beyond.

The international recognition of the contribution and skills of the Greek surgeon of the Athens Medical Group comes two years after he was awarded by Intuitive Surgical as the world’s leading general surgeon in robotic surgery.

In a special ceremony during the World Congress of Robotic Surgery in Chicago, USA in mid-September, the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the CRSA Scientific Society appointed Dr. Konstantinos M. Konstantinidis as President of the CRSA World Scientific Society for Robotic Surgery, making him the first Greek surgeon to head a global robotic surgery society.

Along with his election, he also assumed full scientific responsibility for the organization of the annual global conference “CRSA CONGRESS 2024”, a scientific appointment that largely sets the basis on which the industry will move in the near future and will be held in Rome in November 2024.

For Dr. Konstantinidis, this top international recognition coincides with the 17th anniversary of the implementation of Robotic Surgery at Athens Medical Center (September 2006-2023) and with many thousands of successful General Surgery procedures, rewarding the impressive journey of Robotic Technology that Dr. Konstantinidis’ team first started in 2006 in Southeastern Europe.

“It is a great pleasure and honor for me to be elected as the President of CRSA. Through this position, not only is my personal career as a surgeon recognized, but at the same time the quality of our Group is expressed,” he said upon his election and then thanked his colleagues: “The contribution of my colleagues, Fotis Antonakopoulos, Panos Athanasopoulos, Agis Ioannidis, Marinos Makris, Dimitris Flintra, Ilias Kanellopoulos, is enormous, so I thank them in particular. I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, the leader of the Athens Medical Group Dr. George Apostolopoulos, the CEO Dr. Vassilis Apostolopoulos, the Vice President Christos Apostolopoulos and Mrs. Titi Apostolopoulou for the continuous and very important for me moral and logistical support. Most of all, I would like to thank all those who entrusted their health and their surgical problems to me and my colleagues at the Athens Medical Center.”

Dr. Konstantinidis is the first surgeon in Greece and Southeastern Europe to implement robotic surgery in 2006. At the same time, he was a pioneer worldwide when, at the invitation of Intuitive Surgical, he performed the world’s first single-incision robotic surgery, as well as many other first robotic surgeries that followed.

In his 17 years of practicing robotic surgery, he has performed more than 3,500 procedures. Combined with the more than 16,500 laparoscopic procedures he has performed, his experience in minimally traumatic surgery exceeds the milestone number of 20,000 procedures.

The prominent robotic general surgeon of the Athens Medical Center in his 30 years of presence in Greece has been a mentor to hundreds of Greek and foreign surgeons, who honor him daily with their achievements in hospitals in Europe and the USA.

Dr. Konstantinos Konstantinidis’ leading presence in robotic general surgery and the advanced robotic machines purchased by the Athens Medical Group serve as an attraction for many surgeons from hospitals worldwide, who travel to Athens and the Athens Medical Center to be trained by this distinguished physician.

Mr. Konstantinos M. Konstantinidis, MD, PhD, FACS, MAMSE is: President of the World Scientific Society for Robotic Surgery, CRSA, Scientific Director of Athens Medical Group, Director of General, Oncologic, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at Athens Medical Center, Professor of Surgery at Ohio State University USA, Member of Academy of Master Surgeon Educators of the American College of Surgeons, Governor, Greek Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
