Australian teaches Greek folk dancing in Melbourne

When an Australian teaching Greek traditional dances, the success is assured. The Douglas Ray is a dancer and decided to teach kalamatiano, zeibekiko and other Greek dances to Melbourne residents.

The freedom of movement and music was what drove him to this selection. It is one of the few who teach traditional dances in Melbourne and his students are of various nationalities, not just Greek origin.

The group numbers 25 people and the weekly appointments given every Thursday.

«The third of my class is of Chinese descent and about 5 people are Australians like me,» says Douglas in the «New World»

Along with the steps, he teaches the history of dance, the Greek story is companion throughout their learning process.

Indeed, there is a waiting list to get into the dance teams at his school.
