GRis Festival: The Greek Cultural Retrospective in New York

GRis Festival presents the richness of Greek culture in New York, offering a rich program of events from Friday, April 12 to Sunday, April 21, 2024. An initiative that aims to promote Greek art and culture, the festival includes exciting exhibitions, theatrical performances, musical performances and a special workshop through the collaboration of renowned universities.

The festival program brings a wide range of events, such as the theatrical performance “Sophia Vembo – I remember you” at the Hellenic Cultural Center, the photography exhibition “My Attention Is Not for Free – Alexandros Lambrovassilis” at the PI Art Center, as well as musical performances covering a wide range of musical genres. GRis Festival, among others, will feature two unique musicians, Konstantinos Vitas and Nikos Patrelakis, who will take the audience on a journey through their electronic music world with their musical project “Neapoly”, which has already been a hit on the National Lyric Stage at the Forumat Columbia University.

The acclaimed composer with an international career, Christos Rafailidis and his band Manhattan Vibes will take us to the paths of jazz at The Cutting Room, while composer and pianist Giorgos Varsamakis will present a musical spectrum that includes influences from classical music, cinema and music of the minimum at the Hellenic Cultural Center. Also, the successful folk band Grey River & The Smoky Mountain, which has already left its own musical imprint, will musically combine various American, Irish and European folk elements at The Cutting Room.

In the context of social responsibility, which is part of the GRis Festival’s philosophy, a workshop will be held at Columbia University, aiming to promote artistic and scientific activities of Greeks abroad, through the collaboration between the National Technical University of Athens and Columbia University of New York.

Also, in the same context, a lecture will be held in cooperation with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, at the launch of a marathon of short films at the Hellenic Cultural Center, aiming to highlight the transfer of ancient myths to modern times through the prism of the seventh art.

GRis Festival is not only a forum for the promotion of Greek art and culture, but also a platform for the promotion of young talent and the promotion of intercultural exchange between Greek and American artists.

The GRis Festival is under the auspices and support of many institutions, including the Consulate General of Greece in New York, the Greek National Tourism Organization, the Ministry of Culture, the General Secretariat for Hellenes Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Region of Attica, the Municipality of Athens, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of New York, as well as the support and cooperation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Columbia University New York, the PIArtCenter New York, the National Technical University of Athens and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The Festival is organized by EDU Standards, which operates in the educational services sector in collaboration with Art Vibes Productions production company and Global Educational & Cultural Services (GECS), based in New York.
