Times Higher Education, a London magazine that tracks the higher education market, released its 13th annual list of the top-ranked schools today. For the first time, the number one spot is not held by a university located in the United States. The University of Oxford has become the first UK university to top the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in the 12-year history of the table. It knocks the five-time leader, the California Institute of Technology, into second place in the World University Rankings 2016-2017. 6 Greek Universities are featured in the list. In the list are featured 980 Universities all over the world.

The University of Crete is in places 301-350 and the Aristotle University is in places 401-500. The Economic University of Athens, the University of Ioannina and the National University of Athens are in places 501-600. The University of Patras is in places 601-800.
