Con Makris: The “King” of Australian Gold Coast

The Greek Australian croesus, Kostas Makris, can now be considered as the King of the famous Gold Coast in Australia, after having bought the most expensive properties in the area.

Makris, one of the wealthiest residents of Australia and the richest Greek-Australian, is very well-known in Greece, which he often visits, as well as for taking part in various costly activities. He has also received many honorary invitations to formal events.

He took the big decision to immigrate to Australia in 1963 – at the age of 16 in order to make up some money and eventually return to Greece. His business acumen that distinguished him during his first professional steps led him straight to the top, making him not only the richest Greek-Australian but also the wealthiest resident of South Australia.

Makri’s recent investments appear to be aiming towards the commercial exploitation of the most renowned Australian tourist area, the Gold Coast. Last April, the Greek-Australian businessman bought a shopping mall in the Gold Coast, called Marina Mirage, which houses many luxury stores that mainly sell products from reputable brands of the world.

The 55 million dollar Marina Mirage was just the beginning. Since then Makris has invested in buying the marina in front of the shopping mall, where many luxury yachts filled with wealthy visitors of the Gold Coast are docked.

At the moment, Kostas Makris has purchased another shopping mall for 70 million dollars, the Oracle, which along with the grand hotel towering above it, overshadow all of the businessman’s previous purchases, making him King of the commercial real estate area. This center includes 60 shops, three historic towers and nearly 300 parking spaces. The assessed value of the property reaches 350,000,000 dollars.
