Museum Maria Callas opens in 2015

The creation of the Maria Callas Museum in Athens is imperative. The Maria Callas Museum will be completed in 2015 and will be housed in the four-floor neoclassical building located at 44 Mitropoleos street in Athens.  The building is 1,070 square meters in area and it is owned by the City of Athens.

Visitors to the new Museum will have the opportunity to enjoy the voice of our great soprano and learn about her life and her art.  Major roles performed by Maria Callas, personal items as well as memorable moments in her career will be presented to the public through the Technopolis’ collection, together with ample audiovisual material, representative photographs and digital applications.

The Museum will also feature an ultra-modern museum shop and a bistro named «La divina», as well as a mediatheque (book and music library with a dedicated listening area). It will also have a temporary exhibition hall as well as areas for education programs, master classes and music concerts.

The development of the Museum will require moderate interventions to the building, while a series of experts and artists will work together in order to produce an original and modern establishment worthy of the reputation and qualities of the world famous Greek opera singer. The Maria Callas Museum will be the first open to the public museum that will stage a permanent exhibition and showcase original personal items of the artist while it is expected to attract visitors from all over the world thus boosting tourism and cultural life in the city of Athens.
