The first Greek recording his ascent on Mt Everest
In 2004, the filmmaker and mount climber Pavlos Tsiantos together with his team successfully reached the summit of Mt Everest. They formed the first native Greek team that set foot on the top of Mt Everest. Pavlos Tsiantos filmed this record in his documentary From Olympus to Everest.
Tsiantos’s documentary film joined the International Documentary Film Festival 2007 in Thessaloniki and earned him the 2nd Audience Award.
“They ask me plenty of times how I felt on the top of Everest. The truth is that at that time I did not have any energy in reserve for particular emotions. The brain was affected by the lack of oxygen and hard work, and it was barely able to produce thoughts in need for its preservation. Only the heart was beating fast“, he points out.
The loss of the team’s leader Christos Barouhas gave different meaning to their climbing and inspired them to produce the documentary film Cho Oyu. Motivated by it, they later climbed to the top of the world.
Moreover, Pavlos Tsiantos has earned twice the Audience Award in the International Documentary Film Festival of Thessaloniki with Cho Oyu (2005) and Schoolwave (2007).
