“Scatters” Greek pride in Australia

Mr. George Kokkinos form Melbourne, will be soon awarded with the “Pride of Australia” medal. The reason why? The 69years old man has managed to raise $ 120,000 so far for the Alfred Hospital, by roasting sausages in every corner of Melbourne, ignoring the weather conditions and states determined to continue his charity work.
And if you wonder about the reasons which led to this practice, the answer will surprise you and touch your deep feelings, at the same time. 17 years ago, his son had an accident. A glass fell on him while working and as a result he suffered a serious trauma of one meter and 23 centimetres length. Mr. Kokkinos keeps no secret that nobody believed then that his son will survive, however, as he states on its website neokosmos.gr, « our son lived and so I owe eternal gratitude to the hospital and doctors”.
The 69years old man, never forgot the help provided by the doctors and hospital staff to his child. So when he retired in 2007 he decided to thank the hospital every day, roasting hot dogs in every corner of Melbourne, selling lottery tickets and organizing charity events. So he is considered – not just randomly -as one of the most active peers. And the distinction with Pride of Australia medal by the State is not the only one as a chamber of the hospital Alfred, will take his name, «George Kokkinos Room»!
