1.Vicky Kalogera

Vicky Kalogera, a Northwestern University astrophysicist who played a key role in the historic discovery of gravitational waves — confirming a major prediction of Einstein’s theory of relativity and launching a new field in astronomy — has been named the 16th recipient of the Martin E. and Gertrude G. Who hasn’t lived through the frustrating experience of being without a phone after forgetting to recharge it? This could one day be a thing of the past thanks to technology being developed. New technology developed by Hydro-Québec and McGill University could one day make battery chargers obsolete. One of the co-authors is George P. Demopoulos, chair of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University. Read more…

3.Gerasimos Konstantatos

Researchers in Spain, led by the Greek researcher, have created the world’s first CMOS image sensor to incorporate graphene and quantum dots, allowing the camera to simultaneously view the visible and invisible (infrared and ultraviolet) spectrum. Read more…

4. Antonis Sykaris and Mike Eformidis

The Greek mission was aiming to conquer the summit and eventually on Monday, May 22, 2017, they ascended to Everest with success. After 13 years since the last Greek mission, the team headed by Antonis Sykaris, one of the most experienced climbers and Mike Eformidis co-founder and CEO of COCO-MAT, members of the Association of Greek Mountaineers of Athens, placed the Greek flag to the highest top of the world. 5.Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou

Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou won at the international film festival of Cannes, earning the Best Screenplay Award for the film “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”. They shared the prize at the 70th version of the festival in southern France with the writers of “You Were Never Really Here” by British director Lynne Ramsay. Read more…
