For yet another month Greeks from all over the world, managed to excel, to abolish the borders and make us proud with their achievements. The ellines.com team chose 5 of them, who during the month January caused international sensation with the work and personality.

1. LEONIDAS KAVAKOS

Violinist Leonidas Kavakos has been named the winner of the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2017, worth DKK 600,000 (€80,000). The award is Denmark’s highest musical honour and has been given annually to an internationally recognised composer, instrumentalist, conductor or singer since 1959. Read more…

2. ANTOINE ADAMANTIDIS

Scientists from Bern, among them the Greek researcher Antoine Adamantidis, have discovered a mechanism which is responsible for the rapid arousal from sleep and anesthesia in the brain. The results of their study suggest new strategies for the medical treatment of sleep disorders and recovery of consciousness in vegetative states. Read more…

The first-ever 30 Under 30 Europe list spotlights the young elite and spans ten diverse categories. Adele is in the list of Entetainment in the 10th place. Despite her young age, she has already starred in several feature films, like La Vie d’ Adèle. The movie Blue is the Warmest Colour (original title: La Vie d’ Adele) was awarded the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes film festival. Read more…
