Greece among Top Destinations of 2013

Tourists from Britain consider Greece among their top travel destinations, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and Expedia.co.uk.

Approximately 1.9 million British tourists visit Greece every year while total revenues fromtourism are around 1.4 billion Euros. The UK is the second most important market for Greek tourism after Germany. According to Britain’s Expedia, in 2013 bookings for Greece increased by more than a third compared to 2012, while in 2014, searches for destinations in Greece have already doubled, compared to 2013.

Greece was always a top destination for travelers but now it is far more affordable for tourists due to the financial crisis. Prices for accommodation, meals and drinks had declined, while travel packages have become more guest-oriented, attracting many young travelers who are looking for a low-budget holiday. Tourists are also benefiting from lower priced clothes, accessories and souvenirs.

For British tourists, the most popular Greek islands are Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Santorini and Mykonos, but they are also choosing smaller islands, Thasos, Icaria and Skopelos, which are ideal for low-cost holidays and for those who prefer calm and picturesque surroundings.

Other popular destinations for British travelers, according to figures from Expedia and ABTA, are South Africa, Australia, Spain, Italy, France and Turkey.
