Great achievement for Greek students
The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), in the framework of the programme “Development of Statistical Education in Greece”, organized, for the seventh time, the “Panhellenic Competition in Statistics”, co-funded by the European Union.
A great distinction was received by Greek students. The Evaluation Committee, composed of experts in the fields of statistics, mathematics and communication, after examining the nominations, decided on the winners for each category. Three students from the American Farm School – High School of Thessaloniki Experiential Learning Schools Group with the team AFS_GR_8, won the first place in the category of 14-16 years old. The fifth place in the category of ages 16-18 years old was won by the high school students of the Experimental School of the University of Thessaloniki with the team TUKEY.
446 teams participated in the 7th Competition (125 high school teams and 321 high school teams), with a total of 324 high school students and 868 high school students from 34 high schools and 54 high schools of the country.
The aim of the competition is to identify talented students who are interested in statistical science, how official statistics are produced and used in their everyday life, but also in other areas of society, such as the economy and policy-making.
The European Statistics Competition is open to those teams that have won their respective national competitions and have been nominated by their countries to participate in the European Statistics Competition.
