Cinematic Images of 30s Discovered from Greek National TV

The ERT Archive presents a unique cinematic document. Rare cinematic silent footage depicting aspects of social life during the interwar period. The Papafeio Orphanage in Thessaloniki, the school demonstrations at the Panathinaiko Stadium, diving in the “pool” of Koumoundourou Square, the summer swimming in the sea and the thermal baths of Ypati, give the atmosphere of social life during the summer months, in the middle of the decade. 1930, as recorded by the cinematic lens.

The first topic presents everyday life at the National Papafeio Orphanage “O Meliteus” in Thessaloniki. After washing the taps in the morning, the children attend a lesson in the classroom. Following are sports in the courtyard of the institution. Meal time in the large dining room after prayer and then the movie lens records the time of technical training: sewing, shoemaking, carpentry.
