Second place at Galileo & Copernicus Innovation Challenge

Students of the department of Information and CommunicationSystems,members of the EL community / LAC University Aegean and Microsoft Student Partners community participated and excelled in second place in European competition «Galileo & Copernicus Innovation Challenge» which was held on December 1-3 in Helsinki, Finland, as part of European Space Week. 

The competition was an event where students collaborated to contribute to the scientific fields of land observation and data collection, in particular how the Copernicus program’s land observation technologies can be used to develop innovative ideas and applications. Emergency response, using satellite data, providing solutions to real problems.

 

 

Students at the University of the Aegean submitted a proposal to anticipate and respond to floods and fires, two issues that are of direct concern to our country, as well as a mechanism to reduce the response time of civil protection to emergencies. 

Despite the fierce competition and high quality projects from all groups, the Aegean University student team managed to take second place in the competition. The prize of this award is six months’ access to satellite data, a tool that will be used to further develop and implement their idea. The participation and distinction of the Aegean University student group in this pan-European competition is one of the many extroversion activities taking place. It is also an excellent opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge horizons and get in touch with people in their scientific and professional field.

The students thank the University of the Aegean for their significant support and declare that they intend to pursue similar actions which further improve the extroversion of the student groups and the University.
