Renown artist Michael Zavros received a top award during the australian «Doug Moran National Portrait Prize». His acclaim monopolized media attention.

According to national network ABC, Zavros”  artwork titled “Phoebe is dead” realistically depicts his five year old daughter posing dead, wrapped in a black scarf with a skull motif by British designer Alexander McQueen. The artist has said that the painting “expresses his fear for his children, and especially the possibility of something terrible happening to them”. His work was chosen among 35 finalist portraits to receive the award, as well as the accompanying monetary prize of 150,000 australian dollars.

One of Australia’s most significant younger artists, Michael Zavros often seeks inspiration in greek mythology and the modern fashion world.
