Giannis Antetokounmpo lands NBA MVP award!

Giannis Antetokounmpo capped off his fantastic season for the Milwaukee Bucks winning his first Most Valuable Player of the Year trophy, making Greece proud once again! The Greek Freak made a stunning season with Milwaukee in the regular season with 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game and on Tuesday 25th of June 2019, he became the most valuable player in the world’s top championship in basketball!

After receiving the trophy from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, he got emotional during his speech.

“I want to thank God who blessed me with this talent to be in this position. Whatever I do is through him.

Let me thank my team, my teammates. No one can win 60 games alone. All my teammates were ready to come to war with me. Thank to the coaching staff. Thank to the owners who believed me. I was 18 years old from Greece when they trusted on me.

I want to thank Milwaukee, Greece and the Nigerians who support me. I know that in Greece it is 6 am when I play but they watch me and send me messages every day.

Two years ago I was aiming to become the best in the league. Always when I go to the court I think of my father who pushed me to play harder, even when my body hurts.

I want to thank my amazing brothers. Thank you very much, I love you a lot. You are my models. Thanks for what you do for me.

Thank you to my amazing mother. She is my hero. You can not predict your future and if you do not have a good parent you can not achieve anything. My mother is the heart of this family and my hero.

I want to thank my agents as well. Thank you for believing in me and for not bothering me a lot during the season.

This is just the beginning for me. the goal is to get the championship. Always my father told me to want more but not to be greedy.”

Giannis was a nominee for this prize along with James Harden (Houston Rockets) and Paul George (Oklahoma City Thunder) who also had a great season, but they did not come close to anything that Giannis did. He led the Bucks to the NBA’s first-place finish in the regular season and to the Eastern Finals for the first time since 2001.

As it turned out when the NBA published the results of the poll, practically the Greek Freak did not have any opponent, by receiving the 77% of the votes of the media!
