2 Greek scientists among the 100 most influential medicine makers

The Medicine Maker magazine presented The Power List 2016 featuring the Top 100 most influential people in the world of drug development and manufacture. 2 Greek scientists are among the 100 most influential medicine makers for 2016. The nominations are in and after considerable debate and analysis from the judging panel.

Dr. Nicholas Peppas, Professor at McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Texas at Austin and Dr. George Skangos, CEO of Biogen, listed among the 100 most influential people in the development of drugs according to The Medicine Maker magazine.

Dr. Nicholas Peppas, has received over 150 national and international awards for his work and in 2008 he was selected as one of the 100 Contemporary Engineers from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Nicholas is a leading researcher, inventor and pacesetter in the field of drug delivery and controlled release. He has been the recipient of over 150 national and international awards.

Dr. George Skangos was elected Chairman of the Board of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) in Μarch of 2016. George’s claim to fame is that he created the first transgenic mouse as a young postdoc. Before joining Bayer in 1987, George was a professor of biology at Johns Hopkins University for six years, where he is still an adjunct professor. He grew up in a Greek neighborhood in Lynn. He didn’t speak English until he went to elementary school, and who didn’t get serious about biology until his mid-20s, is now leading a comeback at New England’s largest independent biotech company.
