Six Greeks among the richest in USA for 2015
The list with the richest people in USA was published by the magazine Forbes, known as Forbes 400. 6 Greek businessmen are included on this year’s list with their total fortune to reach 17,2 billion dollars.
It was harder than ever to join The 400. The price of entry this year was $1.7 billion, the highest it’s been in the 34 years that Forbes has tracked American wealth. Last year it took $1.55 billion to make the cut. Because the bar is so high, 145 U.S. billionaires missed the list. Bill Gates is the richest American for the 22nd year in a row, with a net worth of $76 billion.
6 Greeks in the Forbes 400 list
1.JIM DAVIS
The richest Greek of the list is Jim Davis, the owner of New Balance shoes company. He is on number 124 with a total fortune of 4,4 billion dolars, where as last year we found him in 173 place with a total fortune of 3.2 billion dollars. Davis was born in 1943 in the United States to Greek immigrants.
2. JOHN CATSIMATIDIS
John Catsimatides is in 182nd place. Last year he was on 280th place. In just year he managed to grow his fortune and from 2,3 billion dollars in 2014, this year he has 3,4 billion. His group of companies which includes the largest chain of food supermarkets in New York and Florida, 400 Petrol Stations, while he also deals with the Real Estate.
3. JOHN PAUL DEJORIA
John Paul Dejoria is at 234th place with a fortune of 2,8 billion dollars. Last year he was at 179 place with a fortune of 3.2 billion dollars. He was born to immigrant parents, a Greek mother and an Italian father. His main income source is John Paul Mitchell Systems, his hair products company. Actually, before building his business empire, he used to be a homeless guy living in his car.
4. DEAN METROPOULOS
Dean Metropoulos is on 279th place whereas last year he was on number 318 of the list with 2,1 billion dollars. 2015 found him with an estimated fortune of 2.4 billion, 0,3 billion more than 2014. . His family moved to USA when he was 10 years old.
5. MICHAEL JAHARIS
On place 307 is Michael Jaharis with 2.2 billion dollars. Last year he was on 290 with the same fortune. During the last years, he’s regularly included in Forbes’s Richest Men in the World lists. Jaharis is the founder of Kos Pharmaceuticals and Vatera Healthcare Partners and also co-founder of Arisaph Pharmaceuticals.
6. GEORGE ARGYROS
Number 342 on the list is George Argyros with 2 billion dollars. Last year he was on 321st place with 2 billion dollars. The 76 year old businessman deals with real estate and investments and had served as U.S. ambassador to Spain.
