Marathon for Animals Protection in Athens and Sydney

The Penny Marathon will take place on Sunday 13 July in Athens, Greece, and Sydney, Australia.

In July 2012, a group of animal lovers ran and cycled from Marathon to Athens in Greece. The point was to raise awareness of the plight of stray, abused and neglected cats and dogs in Greece and beyond.

The sisters Elli and Despoina Prodromou, decided to make it an annual event with teams now running in both Greece and Australia. The Penny Marathon is named after a stray dog, living on her own in the streets of Athens. The marathon is a way to remember her and all the others that didn’t really get a fair shot at life. The marathon is named after a small dog that didn’t survive the streets of Athens.
