Greek film festival in Israel

The Embassy of Greece in Tel Aviv is presenting to the Israeli audience the most important Greek film director living today, Pantelis Voulgaris, on the occasion of the Greek Presidency of the European Union Council. His work reflects in many ways the turbulent political history of Greece throughout the 20th century, a history of introspection and re-birth.

Through the six movies that have been selected,  the Israeli audience is given the opportunity to gain an overview of the filmography of Pantelis Voulgaris, which is characterized by human-centered themes strongly reflecting social and political realities in a country which until a few decades ago was torn by war and continuous regime changes, but at the same time perennially “submerged” into sunlight, sea and vivid emotions. Voulgaris’ camera in all his films becomes a witness of human nature itself, a collector of experiences, a narrator of the fascinating and unique framework of culture, history and passion that is Greece. Through the faces of his heroes, we may all recognize emotions and situations we have been through, as – after all – his work is an ode to life, man and the country that he is so deeply devoted to.

The program was organized thanks to the kind assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic and the Greek Film Center.
