Greek designer made edible containers

A Greek architect and designer has invented an ecological approach to transporting food: an edible take-out box. KI•RA and The Edible Tower (Of Containers), as Konstantia Manthou named her collection, was presented in Milan’s Desing Week. It is a collection of utensils, that facilitate with the production, transportation and consumption of an outdoor varied meal. Baked dishes made out of bread are used as containers and they can become a part of the meal.

Kostantia Manthou was born in Thessaloniki and is an architect and designer. She is working among several disciplines exploring the new ways and meanings of handicraft. She has worked under the guidance of the Campana brothers for some years; Since 2008 she has been working as a freelance designer and consultant, dealing mainly with product design and interior design. She has participated in various art and design fairs and exhibitions including Venice Biennial, Nuit Blanche, Salone Del Mobile, Athens Biennial, ReMap, etc. Since 2010 is an assistant lecturer at Scuola Politecnica di Design. She currently lives and works in Milan carrying several obsessions regarding methods and materials.

KI•RA and The Edible Tower (Of Containers) is a collection of utensils, that facilitate with the production, transportation and consumption of an outdoor varied meal. While cooking, one can as well prepare edible containers which will later become part of the dish consumption.
Along with the evident ecological approach, the idea of simultaneously preparing food and container, conceals a sensibility to the process and an additional tactility to the consumption.  The linear progress of food preparation for a temporary, alfresco meal becomes circular, and this very routine results to a complete nothing. What remains is the memory of the communal meal.
