A Greek scientist tops the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for research

Antonia Vogt, a 27-year-old Greek scientist, has achieved significant recognition in stem cell and cancer research, earning the top spot in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list for research.

Her academic journey is remarkable. Graduating from high school in Thessaloniki in 2015, she pursued Medical and Science studies, completing them in 2020 with top honors in the UK. At the University of Stirling in Scotland, she earned a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and was selected as an assistant professor for teaching and cancer research.

In 2018, Antonia worked at the Curie Institute in France, contributing to cancer research. The following year, she represented her university at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the U.S. on a full fellowship, continuing her research on glioblastoma. In 2020, she began her PhD in surgery at the University of Cambridge, where she is currently studying on a full scholarship as an Onassis Foundation Scholar and serves as a teaching assistant.

Beyond her research, Antonia has held leadership roles in several prestigious medical societies. In 2021, she founded and currently presides over the Cambridge University Robotic Surgery Society. She also serves as President of the Cambridge Neurological Society and, since 2020, has been Vice Chair of her College’s MCR Committee at Cambridge University, focusing on supporting students through fundraising for scholarships.

Balancing her demanding career, Antonia has been raising her daughter, Ioli, as a single mother since the age of 17. Her journey exemplifies resilience and dedication, inspiring young individuals to pursue their dreams despite obstacles. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining one’s vision and dreams, stating, “For those who keep their vision and dreams alive within them, success is certain.”

Antonia’s family shares in her achievements, with her brother, Kimon-Aristotelis Vogt, also featured in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list. An electrical engineer and AI entrepreneur, Kimon studied at Harvard, taught as a Head Teaching Fellow, and founded Sporo Health, a company developing AI solutions to address key challenges in healthcare.

Antonia’s story is a testament to perseverance and passion in scientific research, serving as an inspiration to many in the scientific community and beyond.
