The Greek-American producer that won an Oscar

Anthony Katagas is a Greek-American producer. He was one of the producers to win the award for Best Picture for “12 Years a Slave,” alongside Steve McQueen, Brad Pitt and Jeremy Kleiner.

The noted Greek-American film producer, who has backed more than 30 films, hit the jackpot at the 2014 Academy Awards, winning an Oscar as one of the producers.

In 1999, Katagas formed Keep Your Head Productions, committed to the development and production of homegrown New York films. Through Keep Your Head, Katagas has produced films by visionary filmmaker Michael Almereyda: Happy Here and Now (IFC Films 2001), This So-Called Disaster (IFC Films 2002) and William Eggelston in the Real World (Palm Pictures 2005). Keep Your Head also produced Blackbird by Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Adam Rapp (2007) and James Gray’s The Immigrant (The Weinstein Company 2013), which competed for the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Next up for Keep Your Head is Cymbeline (2013) to be directed by Michael Alemreyda, starring Ethan Hawke, Milla Jovovich, and Ed Harris.

In 2004, Katagas was nominated for an IFP Independent Spirit award, honoring filmmakers who, despite limited resources, demonstrate the creativity, tenacity, and vision required to produce high-quality independent films.
