Matt Dilon’s new thriller was shot in South Pelion

Greece, with its unsurpassed natural beauty and the unique landscapes it offers, is not only an ideal destination for holidays, but also an inexhaustible source of inspiration for major film productions. From the endless blue of Amorgos, where the iconic film “Le Grand Bleu” was shot, to the picturesque landscapes of Skopelos and Skiathos, the setting for “Mamma Mia”, the Greek seas, mountains and traditional villages have become international film sets. One of these places, of rare natural beauty and authenticity, is Trikeri in South Pelion, where Matt Dillon’s new film, a Spanish-Colombian production directed by Fernando Trueba, is set.

Trikeri, a preserved settlement at the southernmost tip of the Pelion peninsula, remains largely unexplored by mass tourism. With its architecture still intact and the nature around it untouched, this village has retained the atmosphere of the past. The cobbled streets, the traditional houses with their red tiled roofs and stone thresholds make up a setting that seems to have come out of another era. The area offers unique experiences to visitors, such as walks in the natural landscape, exploring old churches and beaches with crystal clear waters that embrace the village.

Even accessing Trikeri is an experience in itself. Until the 1980s, access was only by sea, keeping the village isolated and unchanged by commercialization.

It is in this idyllic landscape that director Fernando Trueba has chosen to set the plot of his new film, Haunted Heart. The film tells the story of Alex (Aida Folch), a charming woman who finds work as a waitress in a small seaside restaurant. While the charismatic Enrico (Juan Pablo Urrego) immediately falls in love with her, she is attracted to the restaurant’s enigmatic manager, Max (Matt Dillon), a lonely American who settled on the island decades ago.

As the seasons change, sexual tension escalates and relationships become complicated.

Full of mystery and twists and turns, the film’s script is set against a backdrop that showcases the majestic beauty of Trickery. Tourists come and go, but the story deepens, with Enrico discovering dark clues from Max’s past, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and suspense.

Trikeri, with its beautiful landscapes and unique atmosphere, is not only a place worth visiting, but also an ideal setting for stories that combine romance, mystery and suspense. The film “Haunted Heart” highlights just that, bringing to the surface the hidden charm of this special place and adding it to the list of Greek landscapes that rightfully earn a place on the world cinema scene.
