Australia’s second wealthiest Greek

Kerry Harmanis is one of the wealthiest Greeks living in Australia, ranking second with fortune worth $590 billion and he also lies among the 200 wealthiest Australians. Harmanis is a lawyer specialising in contract mining law and also involved in the exploration and mining industry for over 3 decades.

He was born in Adelaide to a Greek immigrant father working as a carpenter and to a mother named as the first Greek woman born in Darwin. He studied Law and later focused on mining law. In 1979, he left the law to further tangle with gold mining. He paid his way by running a seafood van for a few years, until he managed to start up Jubilee, a successful gold processing business that switched to nickel in 1996 resulting in discovering rich nickel reserves one year later.

In 2007, Harmanis sold Jubilee Mines NL to the Swiss giant Xstrata for $3 billion with a $500 million return for Kerry Harmanis, boosting him to start up Talisman Mining and to later discover rich reserves for mining, scoring $5 million per month.

My father taught me never to stop. To constantly try. I followed his advise. When i started my company, in 1987, i went through many difficulties but i persevered.

    Hi Kerry
I have followed your investing successes including being a shareholder of Jubilee Mines and followed you into Talisman Mining. Would appreciate your views on whether the assets not associated with the Monty copper joint venture are likely to become viable businesses.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Dear Kerry,

I would be interested to hear your views on Gateway Mining? Do you see it becoming a Tier 1 miner/producer? Any comments would be greatly appreciated?

    Regards Mark Clarke
