Greek-American skater, Olympic Winner

The young Greek-American Evan Laisatsek won the gold medal in figure skating. Due to this, he succeeded to be the first American who won the gold medal after his predecessor, Brian Boitano, Olympic gold medalist in 1998.
Evan Laisatsek was ranked fourth in the men’s figure-skating, as a member of the USA team, during the Winter Olympic Games in 2006. On March 26, 2009 he managed to acquire the first rank in the world championship by his predecessor, Todd Eldridge, champion in 1996. Laisatsek proclaimed by the Olympic Committee as the best male athlete of the month November 2006 and March 2009. Since early 2010, Laisatsek ranked as the second best in the world.

The Greek-American began skating when he was just eight years old. His grandmother had always wanted to be in ice-skating theater group named »Ice Capades», so she bought him skates for Christmas. He was originally playing hockey, so his mother enrolled him and his sister Laura in figure-skating lessons so as to learn how to skate. Lysacek was soon competing as a figure skater. He was born in Chicago Illinois, he grow up in the city of Napervil. He has two sisters, Laura, who is older than him and Christina. He graduated Noukoua Valle high-school, where during his studies was a member of the honor roll, and earned a number of academic achievement awards, including the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence in 1999. He is a Greek Orthodox Christian, having stated that one of his most prized possessions is his Orthodox cross.
