Nicholas Tombazis is an expert mechanic in Aerodynamics. He was the Chief Designer of the Ferrari racing cars for Formula 1 and has worked also in Benetton and McLaren teams. Currently, he is the chief aerodynamicist of Manor’s Formula 1 team.

Tombazis was born on April 22nd, 1968, in Athens to a father who’s one of the most influential architects in Greece, Alexandros Tombazis.

Nicholas studied at Imperial College in London and after receiving his doctorate, he replied to a Benetton ad seeking for a junior aerodynamicist. His professional career started in 1992 after joining Benetton, where he managed to be appointed as Head of Aerodynamics Team by 1994. In 1997, he joined the Ferrari team 1997 as Chief Aerodynamicist and had resided in Italy until 2003, when he discontinued his collaboration and returned to Greece to fulfill his army duties.

In 2004, Nicholas Tombazis joined McLaren as Head of Aerodynamics Development. In 2005, he played a key role in the design process of the MP4-20 and during April of the same year, he was promoted to Automobile Pilot Programs Manager and Chief Designer as a result.

On March 1st, 2006, he rejoined Ferrari as Chief Designer. He left Ferrari on 16 December 2014. On 15 January 2016, the Manor Formula 1 team appointed Tombazis as its chief aerodynamicist.
