Kelly Clarkson is a singer, composer and actress. She was the winner of the first season of American Idol in 2002 and since then she has earned 3 Grammy Awards for her songs, with over 25 million album sales and 36 millions worldwide.

Kelly was born on April 24th, 1982, in Texas. She’s of Greek and Welsh descent, she has a sister and a brother and her parents divorced when she was very young.

Initially, Clarkson’s dream was to become a marine biologist, but she later changed her mind. When her school choir’s teacher overheard her singing in the hallway, she asked Kelly to audition for the choir! She continued singing and she was offered scholarships for her academic studies at the University of Texas, University of North Texas and Berklee College of Music, but she decided to pursue her career in music without delay.

She worked several jobs to finance her demos and turned down two recording contracts proposed by two less major record labels, being confident that something better would come along. In 2001, she relocated to Los Angeles and appeared in few television series, but soon returned to her hometown, where she worked in occasional jobs.

In 2002, she joined the popular American Idol television show and went on to win the competition, boosting her music career. Since then, she has released 5 albums that earned her international success. She also appears in television singing shows and contests as a judge and mentor.

Kelly Clarkson has won 3 Grammy Awards, 2 American Music Awards, 2 MTV Music Awards and 11 Billboard Music Awards. Kelly’s Don’t Rush duet with Vince Gill is nominated for Country Music Awards 2013 in the category Vocal Event of the Year.

Clarkson also joined the 57th Presidential Inauguration for President Obama, performing My Country Tis Of Thee on January 21st, 2013.
