Sophia Kokosalaki is an haute couture fashion designer.  She successfully managed to become established in the fashion world and runs her own label based in London. She’s the favourite designer of several famous Hollywood stars, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Ricci, Kate Hudson, Diana Kruger, Cameron Diaz and many more.

Sophia was born in Greece in 1972 and she is of Cretan descent. She studied English Literature at the Kapodistrian University of Athens, but her passion was fashion. In 1998, she graduated the Central Saint Martins College and Design of London.

In 1999, she started out her own label, named after herself, and received the Elle Designer Award and the Art Foundation Award for Fashion in 2002 and in 2004 the New Generation Designer Award, when her creations found their way into the pages of popular glossies, like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and many more.

“In Greece, it’s difficult to move on in fashion, as it’s not yet an established industry. Unfortunately, I had to leave”, she admits in a former interview.

In 2004, she gains worldwide popularity by designing clothing for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games 2004, with Björk’s dress stealing the show.

Kokosalaki has joined major fashion houses, like the Italian Ruffo of leather clothing, the major fashion group Staff International and Madeleine Vionnet, where she stayed just for a year so that she could later focus on her own label.

What makes her style unique is the use of handcrafted elements together with classic Grecian design. Recently, Sophia Kokosalaki launched her own line of wedding gowns that has dedicated fans in England, Russia and Saudi Arabia, together with her clothing and accessories, like belts, glasses, jewelry and shoes.
