Zoe Cruz is a Greek-born banking executive and former President of Morgan Stanley. In 2006, she ranked 10th on the list of Forbes Magazine’s Most Powerful Women of the World.

Zoe Cruz was born Zoe Papadimitriou on 2nd February, 1955, in Greece.

At the age of 14, she relocated with her family to Massachusetts, United States. She graduated from Radcliffe College and continued her studies at Harvard University, being one of 168 female students in a class of 755 at Harvard Business School.

In 1982, after graduating and having already given birth to her first child, Cruz was recruited by Morgan Stanley, where she worked for 25 years. She quickly moved up the ladder in the business industry. After 4 years of service in the firm, she was named Vice President and on 9th February, 2006, she was appointed Co-President of the firm’s Board of Directors next to Stephen Crawford, a move finally resulting at controversial lobbying and distinguished executives’ withdrawals.

Crawford later resigned his position and Cruz was then appointed acting president. On 29th November, 2007, Morgan Stanley announced that Cruz was resigning in times of financial crisis largely affecting the firm.

«When you don’t plan, things are easier», she has formerly stated in an interview. «You focus on doing a great job.»

In 2009, Zoe Cruz started her own hedge fund company, named Vorás Capital Management, but later liquidated her fund in May 2012 after having a difficult time running it.

Zoe is married to Ernesto Cruz. They both met as students back in Harvard University and gave birth to three children. The later Wall Street famous and dynamic couple’s divorce obsessed the media, as Ernesto Cruz is the influential Head of Equity Capital Markets with Credit Suisse Group.
