Evangelia Chrysikou is an Architect Engineer of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with Ph.D. at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies UCL and MA in Health Care Buildings Planning Management and Design from Medical Architecture Research Unit. Her study and research expertise is on special buildings, like hospitals and hotels, and she’s internationally regarded as a leading master in wellness spaces and in the influence of architecture on human behaviour and state of mind.

September 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, the International Academy for Design and Health honoured Dr Chrysikou with the International Research Project Award on Mental Health Care Building Architecture. Prestigious international academic institutions competed for the same award and received distinctions, like the London Imperial College, the University of Sidney and the University of Oregon.

The International Academy for Design and Health is the world’s leading institution dedicated to architecture and health care. Based in Sweden, the Academy hosts a forum for a world network of scientists and researchers to promote ideas interaction and the cooperation for the improvement of health care architecture and buildings.

The Annual Awards Ceremony is the highlight event of the international health care architecture community and rewards professional excellence in research and design of health care facilities.

Architect and hospital expert engineer Dr Evangelia Chrysikou received distinction award for her research on architecture for the mentally ill and for the development of a design model of psychiatric units and mental institutions.
