Co-Director of the Computational Science and Engineering in MIT

Nicolas Hadjiconstantinou is a professor in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and acts also as co-director in the departments of Computation for Design and Optimization and of Computational Science and Engineering. His research interests are focused in the kinetic transport for small-scale fluid flow and solid-state heat transfer applications, in the molecular and stochastic simulation of nanoscale transport phenomena and in the molecular and multiscale simulation method development.

N.Hadjiconstantinou received his bachelor degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 1993. He then completed three master degrees in Mechanical Engineering, in Engineering and in Physics from MIT in 1995, from the University of Cambridge in 1997 and from the MIT again in 1998 respectively. Afterwards he received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the MIT in 1998.

He started working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1998 and in 1999 he was appointed as assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the MIT Institute. In 2003, he was promoted to associate professor and in 2012 to full rank of professor in mechanical or industrial engineering.

From 2010 until present, he has the position of Co-Director of the Computation for Design and Optimization, a department of MIT, and from 2013 until present he has also the position of Co-Director of the Computational Science and Engineering, another department of MIT. In 2013 he also became the MMEC Area Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Nicolas Hadjiconstantinou is at the Committee on Graduate Programs and at the Task Force on Improving Graduate Admissions of the MIT, he had the vice chair at the APS Frenkiel Award committee, he was an associate editor of the journal Physics of Fluids and was in the board of editors of the journal Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Analysis. He has been awarded with the Gustus L. Larson Award in 2012, with two Best Poster Awards from MIT Energy Conference in 2011 and in 2012, and has been honored as an ASME Fellow in 2011, as a SMA Associate Fellow in 2001 and as a Lawrence Livermore Fellow in 1998.
