Michail Papafaklis is a leading doctor in invasive and non-invasive three-dimensional imaging of coronary arteries and in hemodynamics. He is a Research Affiliate at Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences in MIT

Papafaklis was born in Athens, Greece and got his MD in the University of Ioannina in 2002. He earned his PhD with the thesis “Three-dimensional coronary artery reconstruction and blood flow simulation” from the same university in 2008.

In 2009 he was a Cardiology Fellow in the Naval Hospital of Athens and from November 2009 till November 2013 he was postdoctoral research fellow in Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the George D. Behrakis Cardiovascular Research team at Boston.

From September 2011 until now, he is a Research Affiliate at Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences in MIT and is Cardiology Fellow at University Hospital in Ioannina.

He has worked as a resident in Internal Medicine and as a junior clinical fellow in Cardiology, and he has been a visiting scientist in the Interventional Department of the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC in the Netherlands, where he mainly participated in clinical studies of patients presenting with an acute coronary syndrome.

Papafaklis has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and he has presented several abstracts in international cardiology conferences and has received numerous awards.

In 2010 and 2012 he earned the Travel Award by the ESC Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science, in 2011 he received the Young Investigator Award in Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation by European Society of Cardiology and later this year got his Postgraduate Research Award by Hellenic Medical Society of New York.

Papafaklis earned in 2013 the award on Original Research in Cardiology & Oncology from Academy of Athens and in 2014 the award on Original Research by Young Cardiologists by the Hellenic Cardiological Society.
