Director of Cardiovascular Innovation at the Mount Sinai Medical Center

George Dangas is Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Director of Cardiovascular Innovation at the Zena and Michael A. Weiner Cardiovascular Institute of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Dangas is a leading authority in the performance of nonsurgical cardiac and vascular interventions (e.g. stent, angioplasty, atherectomy) using both established and novel techniques and in preventing and dissolving thrombosis in the coronary and peripheral arteries.

He focuses on catheter-based treatment of heart disease. A number of heart procedures can be performed through an arm or groin with catheters, which are thin, flexible tubes that can get inside blood vessels. Catheters can be used for diagnostic tests or to repair damaged vessels and heart structures (including narrowed arteries and weakened heart valves), often helping the patient avoid the need for major surgery.

Dr. Dangas is currently serving as the Chair of the American College of Cardiology Interventional Scientific Council and has been a Trustee of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI).  He has been a co-director of the annual conferences Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics and Interventional Fellows’ Courses in the USA and Europe for many years and key faculty and program committee member for multiple international conferences including the ACCi2 Summit, ACCIS, and SCAI. He is also the Director of Academic Affairs at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

Dr. Dangas completed medical and postgraduate studies at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.  Dr. Dangas completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Miriam Hospital and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.  He completed his cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology fellowships at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City.  Before joining the Faculty of Mount Sinai, he has been Associate Professor and Program Director of Interventional Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center, NYC and Associate Clinical Professor at NYU School of Medicine and Lenox Hill Hospital.   He has been certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, by the American Board of Vascular Medicine in both Endovascular and Vascular Medicine and has been elected Fellow of seven national and international professional societies (AHA, ACC, ACCP, ESC, SCAI, ACP-ASIM, SVM).
