Efstratios Grivas is a chess Grandmaster, a coach and a writer and one of the lucky people who turned his hobby into a job. Among many personal achievements, his greatest success was winning the Silver Medal at the 33rd Chess Olympiad in 1998, the only Olympic medal our country has ever won to this day.

Grivas was the first to introduce an opening repertoire, a method for starting a chess game with a specific order of moves. He then developed the theory behind the repertoire, inspiring the international chess community to name it after him: the Grivas Sicilian variant.

Efstratios Grivas is a Federal Trainer of the Turkish Chess Federation since 2006 and is culminated in August with the Chess Olympiad held in Istanbul, where he was awarded as the best youth coach in chess in the world for 2011.
