Nikos Deligiannis is a tenure-track assistant professor with the Department of Electronics and Informatics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Vice Chair of the Master on Applied Computer Science .

He was born in Kalamata, Greece in April 1983. He received the Diploma degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Patras, Patras, Greece, in 2006, and the Ph.D. degree in applied sciences (awarded with the highest distinction and congratulations of the jury members) from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussels, Belgium, in 2012.

From December 2006 to September 2007, he was with the Wireless Telecommunications Laboratory, University of Patras. He joined the Department of Electronics and Infomatics, Vrije Universiteit Brussel in October 2007, where he is currently working as a Post-Doctoral Researcher for the ETRO IRIS research group.

From June 2012 to September 2013, he was a postdoctoral researcher with the Department of Electronics and Informatics, Vrije Universiteit Brussel. From October 2013 to February 2015, he was working as postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at University College London, UK. During that period, he was also acting as technical consultant on visual quality assessment technologies at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), UK. From July 2013 to September 2013, Prof. Deligiannis was an external special advisor at the Greek Prime Minister’s Cabinet, responsible for consulting on the integration of the Internet-of-Things and Big Data technologies in the Greek public sector.

His research interests include sparse signal processing, information theory, distributed source coding, compressed sensing, wireless sensor networks, and multimedia communications.

Dr. Deligiannis was the co-recipient of the 2011 ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras Best Paper Award. He is the author or co-author of 40 journal and conference publications, book chapters and of one filled international patent application. Dr. Deligiannis is a member of SPIE, EURASIP and the IEEE Signal Processing and Communications Societies.
