In 1974, two Greek friends and pharmacists set out to pursue their dreams and founded Galenica, a Greek pharmaceutical company venturing in manufacturing and trading in patent pharmaceutical products. Galenica is the first native Greek company focusing on seeking, garnering and patenting the know-how and licensing it in the Greek market.
During the same year, a Galenica model patent medicine manufacturing unit was built up and housed in privately owned facilities in the area of Chalkida, covering 8,200 sq m in 24,000 sq m acreage of land.
Galenica manufactures a line of pharmacotechnical forms, complying with the international standards and regulations and following production processes in accordance with the Good Manufacturing Practice G.M.P., guaranteeing that all statutory measures of environmental protection are in effect.
On Galenica premises is hosted also the main research activity of the company which aims to develop new innovative products and pharmaceutical forms which marks the company’s investment in research.

IMPORTANT DATES
In 1992, after detecting the great growth potential in the OTC market (Consumer Health Care), Galenica took over ownership of Olvos Science, a rapidly growing trading company of OTC health care products.
In 1999, Galenica aimed for the developing markets of the Balkans and reached beyond the Greek border by joining the takeover and management of Sicomed, the biggest pharmaceutical company in Romania at that time. Since then, Galenica’s operations in Romania have been growing rapidly.
In 2000, Galenica set out to invest on biotechnology, relying on the significance of science in discovering new curing and prevention methods.
In 2011, Galenica joined a strategic Greek business merger with Greek pharmaceutical company Minerva S.A., following the breakthrough of the market and industry of pharmaceuticals in Greece.
