George Parthimos is the general manager of Connexion Media and the well known manufacturer of sound systems and other electronic devices “Blaupunkt”, which is based on his invention, an electronic platform called “miRoamer”.

MiRoamer, a completely Greek Australian run project was chosen to be a part of GM’s models thanks to its European and Asian market potential. Called miRoamer, the in-built platform will feature personalised infotainment that will introduce digital radio to cars for the first time. The Greek Australian creators have been working on the project for over eight years. This device will allow the drivers, over a very small fee, to have internet radio in their cars and thus to listen at the majority of the radio stations around the world while being on the road.

George Parthimos, has already won the award for best entertainment product in Australia, the iAward. This prize is awarded annually by the Australian Information Industry Association agency and recognizes innovative products in technology media.

Connexion Media – which specialises in software apps and services for vehicles – has announced it will expand one of its leading IT programs – Flex – into the United States, after signing up with an American carmaker. The Flex IT program was launched in March and allows fleet (or vehicle) owners to track a number of indicators including vehicle geopositioning, speed, fuel consumption, performance and driver behaviour. It stores and sends information to a database every 30 seconds, which is deciphered and accessible to owners via the web.

His next plans are to help rejuvenate the Victorian automotive sector with a new innovation centre for internet-connected cars, which will link local startups with major industry players. The innovation centre, which is still in the planning phase, will have a sister site in Detroit, home to major manufacturers Ford, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler.

Connexion Media chief executive George Parthimos told The Australian Financial Review its existing relationships with major manufacturers, including General Motors, Volkswagen and Peugeot, represented an opportunity to connect smaller businesses, as the industry giants regularly asked Connexion about other products and services available.

“We’re not experts in everything, so this is an opportunity for start-ups wanting to crack into the market to use our channel,” Mr Parthimos said.

Discussions are underway with the Victorian government and the City of Detroit about setting up the centres, and Mr Parthimos has also met with private equity and venture capital groups. Mr Parthimos expects the centres, which will cost $5 million to run for the first three years, to be operational by mid-2016.
