He teamed up with Konstandinos Rigos and the “OKTANA” dance-theater company to create several short films for their “5 Seasons” play. He has also directed two video dance clips (“Private closet”, “Rape of Chloe”), which competed in various international festivals.

His interest in dance is still manifested today, in collaborations with Dimitris Papaioannou and his group,  “Omada Edafous”. Meanwhile, he has directed a selective number of music videos for Greek artistsm such as Elli Paspala, Haris Alexiou, Aristeidis Mytaras and Sakis Rouvas.

However, his success list includes other great moments, like the co-direction, together with Lakis Lazopoloulos, of his first long film in 2000 (“My best friend”), as well as a large number of short and long films featured in film festivals. Up to today, he has directed several TV commercials, many of which received awards. Still, he prefers to avoid excessive media exposure, preferring to talk about his work instead of himself.

His movie Alps won the «Osella for best screenplay» at the 2011 Venice film festival and Best Film at the Sydney film festival in 2012.

The Lobster is a science fiction romantic comedy-drama film in his English-language debut. Its script was awarded the ARTE International Prize for Best CineMart 2013 Project at the 42nd Rotterdam International Film Festival. The film stars are Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Colman, Léa Seydoux, Aggeliki Papoulia and John C. Reilly. As mentioned earlier, Lobster also won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, on May 24th, 2015.

Sacred Deer picks up the laconic tone of Lanthimos’s hit The Lobster but then becomes much darker after a heart surgeon played by Irish actor Colin Farrell operates on a man while he is drunk and kills him.
