Music gives shelter to dreams

With roots in Cappadocia and the Pontus area, Kyriakos Kalaitzidis spent a great amount of his time behind the psalter. He completed his studies in byzantine music and acquired professional qualifications in psalm singing and music teaching, while he began to play the outi regularly when he was 18 years old. In 2010, his name was listed among «Τhe artworks of the most famous oud players in modern history», a book, which was published in arabic by the Syrian Music Academy and includes works of 12th composers- he was the only one from Greece.
Kyriakos Kalaitzidis is considered one of the most important musicians of the Mediterranean region. As a professor of Byzantine Musicology at the University of Athens, he has actively promoted several of his most talented students from 1998 until today. As a soloist or together with the “En Chordais” ensemble he has appeared at festivals and important venues around the world, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the Sydney Opera House, the Institut du Monde Arabe & Theatre de la Ville (Paris), the Silk Road Art Music Festival of Hong Kong, and the San Marco Cathedral (Venice). His discography includes the albums “Expectation”, “Exile” and “The fairy-tale of music”.
