Named as Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star

Theane Evangelis Kapur is a partner in the Los Angeles office of the global law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer “Rising Star” by the publisher of Los Angeles Magazine.

Her area of expertise is appellate and constitutional law as well as media and entertainment matters. She has represented a lot of high profile cases such as representing two gay couples in Perry v. Brown, a lawsuit challenging Proposition 8 – the California constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in 2012 and CBS, which took legal actions against ABC for what the suit claims was a «carbon copy» ripoff of its Big Brother franchise. She was involved also in other cases such as presenting argument on behalf of Hewlett-Packard Company regarding a manufacturer’s duty to disclose latent defects and serving as appellate counsel to Toyota Motor Company in the multidistrict litigation arising out of drivers’ reports of “unintended acceleration” in Toyota vehicles as well as others.

In 2013, she was named by The Daily Journal as one of the “Top 20 California Attorneys Under 40” and was listed in Law360’s “Rising Stars for 2013” in Appellate Law, and again in Law360’s “Rising Stars for 2014” in Class Actions. In addition, Kapur has been recognized by The Recorder as one of California’s “Lawyers on the Fast Track,” and was selected as one of “Greek America’s Forty under 40” by the Greek America Foundation of 2012 class.

As a child, she attended Sunday school and Greek school at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Somerville, Massachusetts.  Both her parents are from the island of Lesvos, Greece. She graduated summa cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2003 and received the University Graduation Prize, which is awarded to the student with the highest grade point average in the graduating class.  During law school, she was a Butler and Pomeroy Scholar and served as Managing Editor of the New York University Law Review.

Kapur is a member of the California bar, she also serves on the board of the California Women’s Law Center and as an Advisory Board Member of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival.
