She created one of the top career websites

Alex Cavoulacos is the co-founder of the career website “The Muse”. The Muse is an online career resource that offers a behind-the-scenes look at job opportunities with hundreds of companies, original career advice from prominent experts and access to the best coaches to get personalized and private career help.

Cavoulacos was born in Washington in the United States and has a Greek descent.

“My father is Greek, and my mother is Belgian Hungarian,” she explains.

She graduated from Yale University, where she was the Executive Director of Global21, a network of international affairs magazines at premier universities around the world. She was also among the founders of PYP, where she brought smart content to young professional women. Prior to founding “The Muse”, she was a management consultant, solving critical strategic and operational questions for top firms worldwide such as the company McKinsey & Company.

“The biggest risk I took was to leave McKinsey and start The Muse. But I think if you have a burning desire, or an idea that needs to be implemented, what is the worst that can happen to you? This is what I thought. When I took the decision, I knew I had to do it because The Muse had to be created,” she said.

In 2011, Cavoulacos co founded the Muse with Kathryn Minshew and Melissa McCreery. Since then the Muse has helped over 50 million people with their careers.

“We have helped over 50 million people since we started the site. We think this has the potential to be THE career site in the world for everyone. If I’m still working on The Muse in ten years and we’re having an impact on people, that’s fantastic,” she added.

She was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in Media, INC’s 15 Women to Watch in Tech and TIME’s 140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2014.
